Intimacy Journal #1

Intimacy Begins Long Before the Bedroom
“The deepest form of intimacy isn’t taking someone’s clothes off. It’s watching someone slowly take their guard down.”
By Charlene Green, Editorial Lead
When people hear the word intimacy, they almost always think about sex.
I don’t.
To me, intimacy starts long before two people ever kiss.
It begins the moment someone feels safe enough to show you who they really are.
I used to think intimacy happened during those passionate weekends together.
The truth?
Those weekends were simply the result of everything that happened before them.
Every Monday morning we’d go back to our separate lives.
Different apartments.
Different jobs.
Different responsibilities.
Sometimes an entire day would pass with nothing more than a simple message.
“Thinking about you.”
“Hope your meeting goes well.”
“Can’t wait for Friday.”
That was enough.
Because we weren’t trying to fill every silent moment.
We were building anticipation.
The conversations never felt forced.
They felt intentional.
Sometimes we’d spend twenty minutes talking about nothing more than how our day had gone.
Sometimes we’d laugh over something completely ridiculous.
Sometimes we’d send a photo that reminded us of the other person.
And sometimes…
We’d send a message that only the two of us understood.
A private memory.
A joke.
A compliment.
A reminder of a weekend that still made us smile.
Little by little, those moments created something much bigger than attraction.
They created emotional safety.
And emotional safety is where intimacy begins.
People often think intimacy is created in one unforgettable night.
I think it’s created in a thousand tiny moments that most people don’t even notice.
One message.
One hug.
One honest conversation.
One person saying,
“You can tell me anything.”
And actually meaning it.
